African Lodge No. 459 is established.

September 29, 1784

Initially part of Irish Masonic Lodge No. 441, and then African Lodge No. 1, it assumes its current name when a charter is issued by the Grand Lodge of England. It is the first African-American Masonic lodge in North America and perhaps the world. Prince Hall is appointed Provincial Grand Master in 1791. Renamed Prince Hall Grand Lodge in 1847, its headquarters later move to 18 – 24 Washington Street in Dorchester.
